Mountain
Scotland is the mountain capital of the British Isles with hundreds of impressive summits, ridges, massifs and high plateaus. There are also islands with beautiful mountains, and it’s impossible to imagine ever tiring of these landscape wonders. Additionally the dark and contested history of the Highlands lends an especially poignant sense of drama and atmosphere. This is often enhanced by its notorious climate. Yet it is in these wild weather conditions, especially in the late autumn and winter that Scotland is at its most magnificent and alive. Besides, the Scottish midge defends its territory with overwhelming ferocity and numbers in the summer months, making for photographic purgatory during this season.
